At least 21 people have been arrested in 18 incidents of election violence in Tripura since Thursday. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gitte Kirankumar Dinakara Rao informed that 89.95 percent voting was recorded in the state in the elections held on February 16.

Tripura Assembly elections are over. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gitte Kirankumar Dinakarao said that 21 people have been arrested out of 18 incidents of violence in this election. He said that 89.95 percent voting was recorded in the state elections held on Thursday. He said that from February 16 to 18, incidents of violence were reported in many places in the state and the police registered FIRs accordingly. Over 150 people have been served notices for their alleged involvement in the violence and a total of 21 people have been arrested.
CEO Gitte Kirankumar Dinakarao said that six incidents took place on the polling day in Tripura. He said that most of the incidents were reported in Sepahijala district. At the same time, he stated that the incidents of violence during the elections have reduced significantly this time. All the Sub-Divisional Magistrates of the state held a meeting with the representatives of the political parties on Saturday and asked them to cooperate in maintaining law and order.

Two BJP candidates — Hemani Dabarma from Golagathi constituency and Pranajit Sinha Roy from Matabari — alleged that repolling was being done in some booths.
However, after examining the webcasting footage of those booths, the allegations were denied. On the other hand, BJP and Left-Congress supporters clashed and blocked the highway at Kumarghat in Unakoti district on Saturday. Police had to resort to baton charge to control the situation. A police officer said that the sub-inspector and some others were injured in the incident. Additional forces have been deployed in the area, he said.
