Chinese Police Ask Parents to Check Children’s Phones for ‘Secret Chat App’




Encrypted messaging apps have become a new target for Chinese police to control speech. Public security bureaus in many places have recently issued notices asking parents to check whether their children’s mobile phones have “secret chat software” such as Telegram. In addition to asking to delete them, some even require parents to take their children to the public security bureau for questioning.
