Way has been paved for hike in mess charges in government hostels in Telangana. A ministerial sub-committee has proposed to the government to increase the mess charges by 25 percent. From 1st to 7th class Rs. 950 to Rs. 1200 for increment, for classes 8 to 10 Rs. 1,100 to Rs. 1,400 has been decided to increase. Also from Inter to PG Rs. It has prepared proposals increasing it from 1,500 to 1,875.
Criticisms are being heard that the mess charges provided to the students in the government hostels of the state are not enough. It has also become difficult to provide quality meals to students in the face of rising prices of essentials. In this order, large-scale demands are being heard for the increase in mess charges. In this order, YCP MP, National President of BC Sangam R Krishnaiah has recently submitted a petition to Telangana Social Welfare and Welfare Minister Koppula Iswar seeking to increase the mess charges of SC, ST, BC hostels and Gurukula students.
And, on the 26th of last month, hundreds of youths protested at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park, demanding an increase in scholarships and mess charges for SC, ST, BC students. R. Krishnaiah, who participated in these protests, questioned why the government is increasing the salaries of government employees and public representatives, but not increasing the scholarships and mess charges of students.
