Misbehavior on flights: 63 passengers who misbehaved on flights during the last year have been included in the ‘no fly list’. Two of these incidents of urination have come to the attention of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The concerned sections have stated that strict action has been taken against those who indulged in indecent behavior in the flights. Government statistics revealed that there are 63 passengers on the ‘no fly list’ from 2022 and incidents of misbehavior on flights have increased in the past year.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on Monday that a total of 63 passengers have been placed on the ‘no fly list’ during the last one year as per the recommendation of an internal committee of airlines constituted under Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR), Section 3 – Air Transport. Actions were taken against them based on the items in the management list of unruly/disruptive passengers under the heading Series M, Part 6. Government statistics reveal that the number of incidents of passenger misbehavior on flights has increased over the past year.
As per the provision mentioned in CAR, DGCA maintains a ‘No Fly List’ containing specific information of the passenger concerned, contact details of identity documents, date of incident, sector, flight number, period of ban etc. The ministry said in its reply that most of the passengers placed on the ‘no fly list’ were related to violations such as not wearing a mask or not following the instructions of the staff.
In the reply, the ministry said that DGCA has taken action for non-compliance of applicable norms with respect to specific incidents of urination. Air India has been fined Rs 30 lakh in connection with the incident that took place on the AI-102 flight from New York to New Delhi on November 26, 2022. Air India imposed a fine of Rs 3,00,000 on the director of flight services and suspended the pilot in command license for three months.
No such proposal..
Minister of State for Civil Aviation General (Retired) VK Singh said on Monday that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is not considering any proposal to limit the serving of alcohol on flights due to the misbehavior of drunk passengers. Singh was replying to a question on whether the DGCA is considering restricting the consumption of alcohol in flights due to the misbehavior of drunk and driving passengers. He replied that no such proposal is currently under consideration by DGCA. It was recalled that a total of 63 passengers were placed on the ‘no fly list’ last year as per the recommendation of the internal committee of the airlines constituted under Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR), Section 3- Air Transport, Series M, Part 6.
