The efforts of the Indian bowlers finally paid off in the Ahmedabad Test. In the last session of the first day, the Indian bowlers who could not take a wicket in the first session of the second day, finally managed to get wickets in the second session. Australia lost Cameron Green’s wicket after a record partnership of 208 runs for the fifth wicket.
Cameron Green, who scored 114 runs off 170 balls with 18 fours, was caught by Srikar Bharat on the bowling of Ravichandran Ashwin. This is Australia’s second highest partnership in India. Earlier in the 1979-80 tour, Australian player Hughes-Allen Border stood on top with a partnership of 222 runs. Cameron Greene – Usman Khawaja Jodi missed that record by 14 runs…
Ravichandran Ashwin ducked Alex Carey in the fourth ball after Cameron Green got out. Alex Carey, who bowled four balls, lifted the ball into the air to play a huge shot and was caught by Akshar Patel to reach the pavilion. This is the fifth time that Alex has been dismissed off Ashwin’s bowling in the last 6 innings.
Even after taking 2 wickets in a single over, skipper Rohit Sharma dropped Ashwin and bowled Mohammed Shami in his place. At the other end, Ravichandran Ashwin, who came to bowl, took the wicket of Mitchell Starc. Mitchell Starc, who scored 6 runs in 20 balls, reached the pavilion by giving a catch to Shreyas Iyer off the bowling of Ashwin.
Though wickets are falling on one side, Usman Khawaja is stuck in the crease at the other end. Usman Khawaja is the only opposition batsman who has faced more than 400 balls in India in the last 12 years. Former South African cricketer Hashim Amla scored 253 runs off 473 balls in the last Test in Nagpur in February 2010. After that Usman Khawaja became the first batsman to face more than 400 balls.
At the end of 142 overs, Australia scored 401 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Usman Khawaja scored 174 runs off 412 balls with 21 fours at the crease while Nathan Lyon is batting with 4 runs at the other end.
Ravichandran Ashwin equaled Anil Kumble’s record of 111 wickets in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. After 173 innings, Ravichandran Ashwin became the second bowler to take 3+ wickets in Tests. Earlier, Muttiah Muralitharan achieved this feat 121 times, while Ravi Ashwin achieved this feat 89 times. Anil Kumble 88, Dale Steyn 85 times achieved this feat and are in the next places.
Team India could not take a wicket in two sessions in the same Test. Indian bowlers failed to take a wicket in only 2 sessions under the captaincy of Virat Kohli in the last seven years at home, while under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the Indian bowlers failed to take a wicket in two sessions in a single Test.
