Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said that before British rule, 70 percent of India’s population was educated. He said there was no unemployment at that time. The RSS chief made these comments while addressing a meeting held after the inauguration of a multispecialty hospital on the Indri-Karnal road in Haryana.

“Before the British rule, 70 percent of our country’s population was educated. There was no unemployment. At that time, only 17 percent of people were educated in England,” he said. They said that the British implemented their educational system in India and our educational system was implemented in their country. He said that in this way they have become 70 percent educated and we have become 17 percent educated.

“Our education system is not just for employment. Even the medium of science. Education was cheap and accessible to all. Hence society took all the cost of education. Scholars and artists who have come out of this education have been recognized all over the world,” he added.
