BSF inspector suspended on rape charges: A Border Security Force (BSF) inspector has been suspended for raping a female BSF constable in a camp in Nadia district of West Bengal. In details… A Border Security Force (BSF) inspector has been suspended amid allegations of raping a policewoman in West Bengal. The incident came to light with a tweet by TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh asking the Center to respond to this. A BSF official said that it is too early to comment further on the incident as the investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, it is reported that the incident took place on the night of February 18 and 19 against the female constable. The victim complained to the police. Further investigation in the case is going on, they said.
A BSF inspector has been suspended and a departmental inquiry has been initiated against him for allegedly raping a woman constable at a border outpost in Kishanganj area, a senior officer of the force said on Tuesday. On February 19, a complaint was registered that an inspector working at Tungi border in Nadia district outpost had raped a female BSF constable. The incident came to light in a tweet made by TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh to respond to this. A senior BSF official said that the inspector will be suspended and a departmental inquiry will be conducted against him. The female constable was shifted to the government hospital for medical examination. He said that she has also registered an FIR.
Kunal Ghosh asked, “A BSF commander raped a female BSF constable in Krishnaganj, Nadia camp. The BSF brought the victim to SSKM. Then zero FIR was registered in Bhawanipur PS. The commander was suspended. What will the BJP say now?” Kunal Ghosh asked. He recalled that the BJP-led central government had amended the BSF Act in 2021 to empower the force to carry out search, seizure and arrest within 50 km of the international border in Punjab, West Bengal and Assam instead of 15 km. It became a major political issue in Bengal as the ruling TMC passed a resolution in the state assembly opposing the Centre’s decision.
Last year, BJP workers were gang-raped in Rajasthan.
In 2022, the Rajasthan Police arrested five people, including three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, for gang-raping a woman in Sriganganagar district of Rajasthan. A senior official said that after the involvement of the personnel, the BSF officials were informed and after that the three jawans were handed over to the police for investigation.
