Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy: Telangana Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy once again criticized the central government. He alleged that the central government is refusing to buy paddy from Telangana even though there is a shortage of paddy in the country. He criticized the Center for not having scientific estimates on the crops to be grown in the country.

“Currently the central government is saying that there is no rice in the country. Rice is being cultivated in 56.44 lakh acres in Yasangi. At the same time, the center is refusing to buy paddy from us,” he said. These comments were made on the occasion of participating in the Kisan Mela on Saturday. Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) organized Kisan Mela at Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP). The minister alleged that the center does not have scientific estimates on the crops to be cultivated. Singireddy suggested that the crops cultivated in different parts of the country should be estimated and on the basis of these numbers, flexibility should be provided for the growth of necessary crops.

The Agriculture Minister said that there is a huge demand for medicinal plants in the international market. He said that cultivation of medicinal plants should be encouraged, if there were no medicinal plants there would be no medicine for 800 crore people in the world. Singireddy said that cosmetic products made of chemical substances are harmful to health, while natural medicinal plants provide higher standards of living. He said that the acceptance of natural products is increasing in the society. China dominates the world market of medicinal plants. The Center wants to encourage farmers to grow crops that are in demand.
