International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year. But this day was originally called International Women’s Day. However, International Women’s Day has been celebrated since the 1900s.

In 1908 there was a lot of discussion on the oppression and inequality of women. 15,000 women held a massive rally in New York demanding shorter working hours, the right to vote and better wages. Thus, in 1909, the first Women’s Day was celebrated across the United States. In 1910, the International Conference of Working Women was held in Copenhagen. It was proposed by Clara Zetkin, leader of the Women’s Office of the Social Democratic Party of Germany. On March 19, 1911, Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland celebrated International Women’s Day for the first time. Between 1913 and 1914, women in Russia celebrated the first Women’s Day on February 23. After that, International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8. In 1975, the United Nations organized the International Women’s Day for the first time.

International Women’s Day is not exclusive to any country, group or organization. Today belongs to every woman. Women’s achievements should be recognized, celebrated and respected. Women are not inferior in anything.
