While one was drowning first, those who went to rescue also lost their lives by drowning. Sultanpur District Magistrate Jasjit Kaur said that they all drowned in the water while trying to save each other. Three bodies were recovered on Wednesday and the fourth body was recovered on Thursday afternoon.
Kaur said the age of the four drowned youths was between 18-32 years. Their bodies were shifted for postmortem. The families of the deceased have been informed. The district administration is making arrangements for their cremation. Officials said that compensation of Rs 4 lakh will be provided to each affected family. On receiving the information, District Magistrate Jasjeet Kaur reached the spot along with police officials and inspected the rescue operations.
