Telangana power consumption has created a new record. The highest peak power demand of 15,062 MW was recorded on Tuesday in the state’s history. It is known that Telangana is the second largest electricity consumer in South India after Tamil Nadu. Today (March 14) at 10:03 am, 15,062 Mega Watts of electricity was consumed in Telangana, Transco and Genco CMD Prabhakar Rao revealed. Further, the maximum power consumption of 14,138 megawatts was recorded in the state on Monday (March 13).
Today, Southern Power Distribution Company’s peak demand is 9,121 MW, while Northern Power Distribution Company’s peak demand is 5,738 MW. On the same date last year, Daran Power Distribution Company’s peak demand was 7,849 MW and Northern Power Distribution Company’s peak demand was 4,711 MW.
“We have already anticipated that the peak demand will reach 15,000 MW in the month of March and have made arrangements for power supply as per the Chief Minister’s orders,” said Prabhakar Rao. Last year, the highest electricity consumption of 14,160 mega watts was recorded in the month of March. This time the record will be exceeded and electricity consumption will be at a record level.
Further, the share of agriculture sector in the total electricity consumption in the state is 37 percent. This is because most of the farmers use borewells for cultivation of crops. However, necessary measures are being taken for uninterrupted power supply to all farmers as well as consumers in summer, he said.
