In the Women’s Premier League (WPL) which started three days ago in Mumbai, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians are racing with two consecutive victories. Bowler Saika Ishaq is playing a key role in the team’s success with all-round performances. This spin sensation who took four wickets in the match against Gujarat Giants. 27 years old Ishaq is a budding cricketer from a normal middle class family in Bengal (Kolkata). Her cricket journey began by playing cricket for Kalighat Club. Ishaq, a spin all-rounder, played for Bengal Under-19 and Under-23 teams. After excelling in the Bengal state team, she was called to play in domestic tournaments.
Although she has not played for the national team so far, she has participated in the Women’s T20 Challenge (2021, 2022) along with India-D, India-A Women. She has consistently excelled and entered the WPL auction. On the initiative of Jhulan Goswami from Bengal, Mumbai Indians bought Ishaq for Rs. Bought with a base price of 10 lakhs.
