Ukraine-Russia War: The Ukraine-Russia war is affecting not only those two countries but the entire world. A year has passed but the war is still going on. Many countries of the world have announced their support to both countries. The recent visit of US President Joe Biden in Ukraine has increased the heat in the atmosphere of war. According to United Nations human rights statistics, 8,006 civilians were killed and 13,287 were injured.
Here are the major events of War every month from February 24, 2022.
24 February 2022: Russia has launched attacks on Ukraine from the north, east and south. In the two days that followed, there was intense shelling and missile attacks on the two largest cities, Kyiv and Kharkiv.
March 2022: Russia has seized the Kherson region and begun efforts to establish a land bridge between Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts of Donbass. The highest number of civilians have been killed in attacks this month.
April 2022: Russian forces retreated from Kyiv. Evidence of massacre of civilians in Bucha emerges. Ukrainians began to reclaim territory in the north from Russian rule.
May 2022: Bombings continued for weeks. Maripol was badly damaged after the Ukrainian resistance. Russia occupied all Black Sea coasts except Odesa where the Azovstal steel plant was in ruins.
June 2022: Ukraine has recaptured Snake Island in the Black Sea near Odessa, which Russia captured on the first day of the war. This morale-boosting victory dealt a blow to Russian naval prowess.
July 2022: US-made Himars were deployed. All of Luhansk came under Russian control. The bloody war in Donbass has been going on ever since. Fears grew around the Zaporizhia nuclear plant.
August 2022: Ukraine has launched a massive counteroffensive in Kherson using Western-supplied weapons. IAEA inspectors were allowed in the Zaporizhia nuclear plant targeting the Russian air base in Crimea.
September 2022: Attacks increased again. Ukraine has recaptured most of Kharkiv. There were reports of demoralization in the Russian ranks as Ukraine responded boldly. The Nord Stream undersea pipelines were also destroyed.
October 2022: A huge explosion occurred on the Kerch Strait Bridge connecting Crimea with Russia. Russia is trying to disable Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Captured Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, Zaporizhia.
November-December: Russia withdrew its forces from the city of Kherson, east of the Dnipro. The war took its toll on both sides. Ukraine drones attack military bases in Russia.
January-February 2023: Ukraine has attacked a building where Russian troops are stationed in Donetsk. Moscow announced that 89 soldiers were killed. America, UK and Germany say that they will send tanks to Ukraine. US President Joe Biden visited Kyiv.
