Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) members have extended the last date to apply for higher pension from March 4 to May 3, 2023. According to the guidelines given by the Supreme Court, EPFO members can apply for higher pension along with their employers. March 4, 2023 was previously fixed as the last date for opting for higher pension. The recently activated URL on the EPFO Unified Member Portal clearly shows May 3, 2023 as the last date for opting for higher pension.
Earlier, the Supreme Court, in its order dated November 4, 2022, asked EPFO to give four months to all eligible members to opt for higher pension. This four month period will end on March 3, 2023.
Last week EPFO released its process details. Subscribers can apply jointly with their employers for higher pension under the Employees Pension Scheme (EPS). In November 2022, the Supreme Court upheld the Employees’ Pension (Amendment) Scheme, 2014.
Earlier, the EPS revision dated August 22, 2014 raised the pension income limit from Rs 6,500 to Rs 15,000 per month. Also, members and their employers are allowed to contribute up to 8.33 percent of their actual earnings to EPS.
In this regard, EPFO has issued a circular to its field offices. URL (Unique Resource Location) information will be provided by EPFO soon. Thereafter, the Regional PF Commissioner shall place a suitable notice, banner on the notice board so that it is publicly known. Under this a receipt number will be given after each application is digitally registered.
Regional Provident Fund Office in-charge reviews each joint selection case. Thereafter, the applicant will be informed about the decision by e-mail/post, followed by SMS.
