Three arrested over attack on Left, Congress MPs: Left parties (leaders of left parties) and Congress MPs were attacked in the north-eastern Indian state of Tripura. The police registered a case in connection with this incident and detained three persons. Security forces have been deployed in the area and steps are being taken to nab the others involved in the attack and absconding.

In details, the police said on Saturday that three people have been arrested in connection with the attack on the Left Party leaders and Congress parliamentary delegation in Sepahijala district. Security forces have been deployed in the area and senior officials are monitoring the situation. A delegation of Left and Congress MPs visiting the post-election violence-affected areas was attacked in Nehal Chandranagar, a border village of Bishalgarh sub-division. He said that three people have been arrested so far and steps are being taken to nab the rest of the attackers. A senior police officer said that an FIR has been registered in connection with the incident.

Security forces have been deployed in the area and senior officials are monitoring the situation, he said. Another official said that Chief Minister Manik Saha, who is currently in Delhi, spoke to DJP Amitabh Ranjan and asked them to arrest all the accused regardless of their politics. The CPI(M) said that a joint team of the Left and Congress is touring various violent areas in West Tripura, Sepahijala and Khowai on Friday. When the delegation including CPM MP E.Karim, Congress MP Abdul Khaliq and AICC General Secretary Ajay Kumar reached Nehal Chandranagar market, thugs attacked them with slogans of ‘Bharat Mataki Jai’. CPM senior leader Rakhal Mazumdar said that one vehicle was badly damaged and two other cars were also damaged. 20 shops were set on fire in this area on Wednesday night.

The police said that none of the eight members of the group were seriously injured in the attack, but two and three vehicles carrying the Left and Congress leaders were destroyed. CPI MP Binoy Vishwam said that the team will remain in the state till March 12, after which it will submit a report and raise the matter in Parliament. Most of the post-election violence cases were reported in Sepahijala and Khowai districts. Chief Minister Manik Saha has directed the police to take strict action against some people with vested interests who are trying to create riots in the state. The BJP-IPFT government came to power for the second time in a row in the wake of the results of the assembly elections on March 2.
