Lt Gen MV Suchendra Kumar has been appointed as the new Vice Chief of the Indian Army. Meanwhile, the current Vice-Chief of the Army, Lt Gen BS Raju, has been transferred as the Commander of the South Western Command of the Army. BS Raju will replace Lieutenant General AS Bhinder, who will retire on February 28 as the Chief of the South Western Army Command.

Vice Chief of Army Staff: Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar has been appointed as the new Vice Chief of Army Staff. Lieutenant General M.V. Suchindra Kumar has been appointed as the new Deputy Chief of Army Staff. Presently serving as Deputy Chief of Staff (Strategic) at Army Headquarters. Sources said that Lt. Gen. Kumar is Lt. Lt. Currently serving as Chief of Staff in Northern Command, Udhampur. General N.S.R. Subramani was appointed as the Commander of the Central Command of the Army operating from Lucknow. All these appointments will be effective from March 1.
General Suchindra Kumar is an alumnus of the National Defense Academy, Khadakwasla. He joined the Army in June 1985 with a posting in the 1st Assam Regiment. He held many important posts. General MV Suchindra Kumar commanded the 59 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, Infantry Brigade, Infantry Division on the Line of Control. General Kumar also commanded the White Knight Corps. Additional Director General Military Intelligence, Director General Military Intelligence at Army Headquarters.
Lt Gen BS Raju
Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. BS Raju was commissioned in the 11th Battalion of the Jat Regiment in December 1984. He commanded his battalion during ‘Operation Parakram’ in Jammu and Kashmir. He is also credited with commanding the Uri Brigade, Counter Insurgency Force, Chinar Corps along the Line of Control in the Kashmir Valley. The General Officer is also the Commandant of the Indian Military Training Corps in Bhutan. He was commissioned into the Garhwal Rifles in 1985.
Lt Gen Subramani was commissioned in the 8th Battalion of the Garhwal Rifles in December 1985. He is an alumnus of Joint Services Command Staff College, Bracknell (UK) and National Defense College, Delhi. General Subramani holds an MA from King’s College, London.
Lt Gen Subramani had a long career of 35 years in which he served in various capacities. In 2018, he led counterinsurgency operations in Assam as part of ‘Operation Rhino’, 16 Garhwal Rifles in Assam, 168 Infantry Brigade in Samba and 17 Mountain Division.
