Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi was furious with the central government. Referring to the ongoing controversy over the process of appointment of judges, he said that the Centre’s comment on persons holding constitutional posts is worrying. Looking at these conditions, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi expressed concern that the Narendra Modi government is bringing back the ‘Indira Gandhi era’ in the country.
Speaking as part of the debate on the motion of thanks for the President’s speech, Owaisi accused the government of not doing enough for the minorities. Expressed concern over India-China border situation. People in constitutional positions are commenting on infrastructure, and that is on the collegium of the justice minister.
When the NJAC (National Judicial Appointments Commission) Bill came up, he said he was the only MP who said it was against infrastructure. Indira Gandhi said that she should learn a lesson from Indira Gandhi and that the judiciary should follow her, now Prime Minister Modi says that the judiciary should obey her. Looking at these conditions, there is concern that the same Indira Gandhi era is being brought again.
There is a debate in the judiciary and executive circles over the process of appointment of judges to the Supreme Court and High Courts. Owaisi accused the government of not doing what should be done for the minorities and cut the budget of the minorities by 40 percent.
He said that minorities, who constitute 19 percent of the population, were not mentioned in the President’s speech. He questioned whether the Narendra Modi government does not want Muslim children to study and whether they should be victims of poverty. Owaisi also mentioned Bilkis Bano and said, ‘Though she has been fighting for 20 years, justice has not been done to her, her name is Bilkis Bano’.
During the 2002 Gujarat riots, seven of Bilkis Bano’s family members were killed and she was gang-raped, and 11 convicts in a similar case had their sentences commuted. Talking about the India-China border situation, he alleged that the government is “scared of China”.
