President Draupadi Murmu has issued orders appointing Aam Aadmi Party MLAs Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj as ministers in the Delhi Cabinet. Both of them are likely to take oath on Thursday.

President Draupadi Murmu on Tuesday (March 7) issued an order appointing Aam Aadmi Party MLAs Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj as cabinet ministers in the Delhi government. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal sent proposals to LG VK Saxena asking them to be appointed as ministers. Both of them are likely to take oath on Thursday. The Ministry of Home Affairs said that these orders will come into effect from the day they take oath.

Elected MLA for the first time in 2020, Atishi Kalkaji is a key member of Sisodia’s education team representing the constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he contested from East Delhi constituency and lost to BJP candidate Gautam Gambhir. Saurabh Bhardwaj, who served as the Transport and Environment Minister in Kejriwal’s first government for 49 days in 2013-14, won three times as an MLA.
Bhardwaj, who is represented as AAP’s national spokesperson and Greater Kailash MLA, has also been entrusted with the responsibility of cleaning the Yamuna river and bringing water to every household through pipes in his capacity as the vice-chairman of the Delhi Water Board.

Delhi Ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyender Jain have resigned from their posts in the wake of allegations of irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy scam. After the arrest of former Delhi minister Satyender Jain last year, seven departments held by him were transferred to Sisodia. After his arrest, Sisodia resigned from 18 posts he was holding on Tuesday.

The now scrapped controversial excise policy was approved by the Delhi Cabinet headed by CM Arvind Kejriwal in 2021 amid the pandemic. The AAP government withdrew it after the CBI registered a case of corruption in this system. In the FIR filed by the investigating agency, a case has been registered against Sisodia and 15 others. Sisodia was arrested in this case.
