Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia approached the Supreme Court. Manish Sisodia has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the CBI’s arrest in the Delhi liquor scam case. Hearing the arguments of senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi on behalf of Sisodia, Supreme Court Chief Justice Justice DY Chandrachud asked why he did not go to the High Court before coming directly to the Supreme Court. Responding to this, Abhishek Singhvi cited the Supreme Court’s verdict in the case of journalist Vinod Dua. That is why Manish Sisodia has approached the Supreme Court directly.

In this order, the Supreme Court allowed the hearing of the petition filed by Sisodia challenging the CBI arrest. Chief Justice Chandrachud said that a hearing will be held today at 3:50 pm in this regard. Meanwhile, a sedition case has been registered against journalist Vinod Dua for criticizing the Centre’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. Vinod Dua directly approached the Supreme Court. However, the Supreme Court quashed the sedition case registered against Vinod Dua in June 2021.

Further, central investigation agencies are alleging that Manish Sisodia is a key player in the Delhi liquor scam. In this order, the CBI officers interrogated Sisodia again on February 26 and arrested him. On Monday, the CBI officials produced him in the Rouse Avenue court in Delhi. He was asked to be remanded for five days. Arguments were heard in the CBI court that Delhi Liquor Scam was highly planned and secretly conspired. It also said that Manish Sisodia will play a key role in this. It argued that custody of Manish Sisodia was necessary for effective trial in the case. Although Sisodia claimed that he had no role in the case, the CBI informed the court that the investigation revealed that he took the decisions personally.

On the other hand, Manish Sisodia’s counsel told the court that there was no evidence against him. He said that the CBI will say that Manish Sisodia changed the cell phones…but that is not a crime. The lawyer said that this policy was implemented only after taking advice from the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.. Since it requires consultation, there is no possibility of conspiracy.

However, after hearing the arguments of both sides, the court allowed Sisodia to be remanded in CBI custody for five days. In this order, CBI is ready to question Manish Sisodia for five days from today. On the other hand, Sisodia’s arrest has been condemned by Aam Aadmi Party and many opposition parties. They are accusing the Center of keeping the investigation agencies in the dark and conspiring against those who raise their voice against them. Also, AAP ranks are protesting against the arrest of Manish Sisodia in many states besides Delhi.
