In the first one-day match being held at the Wankhede venue as part of the three-match ODI series against Australia, the Indian bowlers failed. Initially, the Aussies looked like they would score big with the brilliance of Mitchell Marsh (81 off 65 balls, 10 fours, 5 sixes), but the Kangaroos were shocked by his departure. The Indian bowlers took wickets regularly and increased the pressure on the Aussie batsmen. Aussies were bowled out for 188 runs in 35.4 overs with senior pacer Mohammad Shami, Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja doing well.
Mohammed Siraj shocked the Aussies who lost the toss and came to bat first in the first over. Opener Travis Head (5) was clean bowled by Siraj to give India the break. Despite losing the first wicket, the Aussies played hard. Marsh, who came as an opener, added 72 runs for the second wicket with Steve Smith (22 off 30 balls, 4 fours).
Siraj, who took a wicket in the first over, scored huge runs in the next overs. Mars hit three boundaries in the fourth over of the Aussie innings. Smith then hit two fours off Shami’s bowling. Marsh scored two more boundaries in the 8th over bowled by Siraj. Shardul hit a huge six in the tenth over.
