Elections for the 60-seat Tripura Assembly have begun. Officials have completed all arrangements for this. A total of 28.13 lakh voters will decide the fate of 259 candidates in this election. Counting of votes will be done on March 2.

Polling has started for Assembly elections in Tripura. The voting process for the 60-member legislature began amid tight security. In the north-eastern state, a three-way battle is going on between the BJP, the Congress-Left Alliance and the regional party Tipra Mota. Mamata Banerjee-led All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) is also trying to capture the electoral fortunes in the state.

The polling started at 7 am and will end at 4 pm. For the assembly elections, the Election Commission has set up a total of 3,337 polling stations across the state, out of which 1,100 have been identified as sensitive booths and 28 as critical booths. A total of 28.13 lakh voters will exercise their right to vote in this election. There are 13.53 lakh women voters in this. 28.13 lakh voters will decide the fate of 259 candidates. Counting of votes will be done on March 2. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Githe Kirankumar Dinakarro said that all arrangements have been completed to conduct the elections in a free and fair manner.
Currently, out of 60 assembly seats up for election, 20 are reserved for the state’s 19 scheduled tribes and 10 for the scheduled castes. The BJP is contesting 55 seats to retain power with its current ally, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT). IPF T is contesting the remaining five seats.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Front, which has entered into a seat-sharing agreement with the Congress to oust the BJP, is contesting in 47 constituencies. Congress has been allotted 13 seats. A new tribal party led by Tripura royal scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Dabarma has fielded candidates in 42 constituencies of Tipra Mota. Trinamool Congress has fielded candidates in 28 seats.
