Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said that the opposition will raise issues like unemployment, inflation and attacks by central investigative agencies in the second half of the budget session. The second phase of the budget meetings began amid a war of words and accusations by the BJP and the opposition. While the BJP was furious over Rahul Gandhi’s comments in London, the opposition described the Narendra Modi-led government as a dictatorship.
Before the start of the assembly, Mallikarjuna Kharge told ANI that the opposition leaders will raise every issue, including unemployment, inflation and raids by central investigative agencies like ED-CBI. He also stated that we will take the views of all opposition leaders to formulate a strategy. “Government agencies are troubling opposition leaders so much without showing any sympathy for senior citizen Lalu Prasad Yadav and his pregnant daughter-in-law. Agencies are free to perform their duties, but it is wrong to be subjected to political influence for partisanship,” Kharge said.
Also, BJP is accused of trying to gain sympathy from the people of Karnataka. He criticized that this is being done in the background of elections to the state assembly. He commented that this is why Prime Minister Modi is doing successive tours. “Prime Minister Modi is busy getting sympathy from the people of Karnataka. We are asking about their work, what they have given to the people of Karnataka. They want to take all the credit by connecting the two ends of the road. We built the road to connect Mysore for tourists. Tell the truth instead of telling lies,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kharge chaired a meeting of Congress MPs at the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) office in Parliament this morning. Congress MP Sonia Gandhi, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhuri and many senior leaders participated in this meeting. 16 opposition parties met at the Kharge office in the Parliament premises to strategize for the budget meeting. Parliament’s budget session resumed on Monday after a month-long break. The Parliamentary Standing Committees concerned by the department have so far adjourned their meetings to allow them to examine the demands for grants and prepare reports for their respective ministries or departments.
The second phase of the budget meetings, which will begin on March 13, will be held till April 6. On this occasion, the demand for grants will be discussed and the Union Budget introduced on February 1 will be approved.
