Union Justice Kiren Rijuju said that in the last eight and a half years since his government came to power, 1,486 outdated and ineffective laws have been removed. He said that another 65 such laws will also be removed and a bill will be introduced in the next session of Parliament.

Union Law Minister Kiran Rijiju said that 65 more outdated laws will be repealed. He made it clear that the bill will be introduced in the Parliament session which will start from 13th of this month. Speaking at the 23rd Commonwealth Law Conference in Goa, the minister said that more than 4.98 crore cases are pending in various courts in India. He said that these pending cases will be resolved using technology. Paperless judiciary is the ultimate goal of the government, he said.

Kiren Rijiju said that every citizen in the country is benefiting from the welfare programs undertaken by the central government. He said that it is very important to listen to everyone as a welfare state. Rijiju said that the Modi government is in the forefront in providing convenience to the lives of common citizens. He said that the government’s policies have been successful in terms of living comfort.

He said that the government believes that laws are for the benefit of the people and if the laws become a hindrance and become a burden on people’s lives then such rules should be removed. He said that in the last eight and a half years, 1,486 outdated and ineffective laws have been removed. He said that he will introduce a bill to remove 65 more outdated bills (laws) and other provisions in the budget meetings that will begin on the 13th of this month.

The Union Law Minister said that more than 4 crore 98 lakh cases are pending in various courts in India. It is not easy to reduce the pendency even as the number of new cases doubles, he said, adding that Indian judges are working exceptionally hard, but it is becoming more challenging. The minister said that under normal circumstances a judge disposes of an average of 50-60 cases per day. Some judges, however, said they disposed of 200 cases in a day, but the pending cases were increasing.

Rijiju said the government is using technology to deal with this situation. “We have launched e-Courts, Special Projects – Phase 3. Our ultimate goal is to make Indian Judiciary paperless. “The government is also exploring other dispute resolution mechanisms like arbitration,” he said. Rijuju made it clear that the Arbitration Bill will be brought very soon so that arbitration can be organized in the country. Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and others attended the opening ceremony of this five-day conference. Representatives of 52 countries are participating in this program.
