Oil prices were mostly steady on Thursday. US crude is at $76.66 a barrel. Brent crude was largely unchanged at $82.67 a barrel.
Moscow’s supplies currently account for 35 percent of India’s total oil imports, down from less than 1 percent before the Ukraine war, according to data provided by consultancy Vortexa. These record levels are almost at par with India’s imports from Iraq (940,000 bpd) and Saudi Arabia (648,000 bpd).
The main reason for the increase in Russian crude oil exports to India is the huge discounts Moscow offers on its crude.
Public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs) including Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) revise prices daily in line with international benchmark prices and forex rates.
